One headlight comes on when you turn it on?

I'm not sure if this is normal or not but when I'm in low beam only one side of the headlights come on, but when I switch to hi-beam then both sides come on. By the way I have 2004 Yamaha R6 I just bought today.

Yeah, that's normal. Stupid but yes that's the way these bikes are.

BTW: what color did you get?

I got the Silver with black flames (Limited Edition). I love the bike, its a beauty. And this is my first street bike and I took it on small roads today to get used to the bike and it literally scared the piss out of me the first time. he he But I need to practice and get really comfortable with it before I take it up the highway.

Hey u sound just like me- i bought the same bike-scared the **** out of me and im learning to ride it now. Its a hell of a lot of fun and also noticed only one damn headlight worked! Now I hope some stupid Cop doesnt pull me over for that! And if anyone knows why it is set up like this, and if it can be changed could u let me know? Thanks

Actually, you are less likely to screw up on the highway than you are on the city streets. Be very careful learning... don't be tempted.

Yeah, my 04 ZX-6R has the same deformity...I don't like it so, I ride on high beams all the time...I don't know what idiot came up with the idea...

Absolutely...It's best to always ride with HIGH BEAMS. At night though don't ride to close to other cars with the highs on. Switch to low when necessary but put it right back HIGHS right away.[:]THUMBSUP[/:]

u dont know how many people would tell me i had a headlight out when i would pull up to get gas at night or go through gates to post (army). im not sure if riding with your hi-s on is a good idea...ive never heard of it....ive been riding for a while and ive never heard of it, but hey...its not a bad idea if it does make people watch out for you.

I just don't understand why its like that. Even the 2000 R6 both lights work in low and high beams except for new ones....I don't know why they chose to have one side out for low beams, but I just hope it puts out just as much light as the older bikes in low beams with both side on. And even with high beams on it seems like one side is brighter than another.....whoever came up with this idea needs to be shot.

advice: ride with the high beams during the day (it makes you more visible without blinding anyone. And use your regular low beam at night (so you don't piss people off, which in southern california, can lead to that wonderful thing called road rage)

i just bought a limited edition 03 r6. i think EVERY damn person i showed the bike to said i had a headlight out.....its an 03....not a p.o.s. anyways is there a way to rewire it instead of riding with the highs on

Not sure about the r6 but me and a friend were gonna rewire his 600rr so they would both be on at the same time. The problem was that the high beam side of the headlight isn't a higher wattage bulb. The housing that the bulb sits in is shaped different (has more angles) so it refracts the light differently making it brighter. If we rewired it so both sides were on at all times it would be the same as just running your high beams constantly. LIke I said, this was on a '03 600rr but I would guess that the r6 is the dame way.
